Havets Hus in Lysekil
By using the knowledge of previous generations and building on science and innovations, Havets Hus, the saltwater aquarium in Lysekil, aims to teach and to arouse interest in current and future generations about marine life and its importance. Havets Hus enriches the visitor experience and strengthens the Havets Hus, and Lysekil brand, by being a credible expert on marine life – mainly the North Sea – as well as living what we teach and working to preserve marine habitats. Consideration for the environment and for people permeates our entire business. Some of the ways we demonstrate this are:
Comply with the laws and requirements that apply to our business
Strive for our transport to have as little environmental impact as possible
Strive for our guests’ transport to have as little environmental impact as possible
Reduce our consumption of resources
Primarily choose environmentally friendly and/or fairtrade products and services, as long as the price difference is reasonable
All staff have good competence in the environmental field
Raise environmental issues via the information in the aquarium
We work together constantly to improve our environmental work and to prevent environmental impacts
Take environmental and natural resource issues into account when making decisions and planning operations
We consider environmental aspects in a structured way, which also means that we set requirements, or goals, and make follow-up assessments.
IN ACTION, THIS MEANS FOR EXAMPLE THAT:
We increase knowledge of biodiversity, the Swedish red list, and the importance of a living ocean
We encourage individual responsibility for our environment through our information program and educational activities
We work actively with our own conservation projects and contribute to research collaborations whenever possible
All feed we serve our animals and the food served in the restaurant comes from sustainable stock
Our vehicles run on renewable fuel
We encourage our employees to use bicycles or public transport as a first choice, and for longer journeys we take the train
We search for environmentally and fairtrade certified goods for the museum shop and highlight locally produced products
We educate all staff about the environment, hospitality, first aid, use of defibrillators, and fire safety procedures
All the energy we use is environmentally friendly
We sort our waste at source and work to minimize waste in the business
Our work clothes are mostly eco-labelled and so are all the tabards for school groups
We offer environmental training to other companies
