Strandflickorna
Strandflickorna Hotel and Bed & Breakfast in Lysekil have been welcoming guests for over 30 years. Our turn-of-the-century villas offer an Art Nouveau romance by the sea, while the Sea Studio and Bath Pavilion provide modern furnishings, each with their own bathing jetty and jacuzzi.
Our restaurant, Fröken Fridhem, offers a bistro menu with local elements. We are open all year round, providing consistent employment for our team.
We minimize the number of transports by always ordering food, drinks, consumables, and cleaning materials from a few suppliers and in as large a quantity as possible. We avoid single-use packaging for food by always buying in large packs whenever available. For serving, glass jars, bowls, and dishes in glass/porcelain are used, and we like to buy vintage porcelain second-hand. We only use environmentally friendly bags, paper straws, napkins, drying, and toilet paper. Washing and detergents are eco-labelled and highly concentrated. We only use highly concentrated machine dishwashing detergent in capsules with automatic dosing that is continuously calibrated. We have also replaced all light bulbs with LEDs. To reduce the consumption of washing and cleaning agents, we have detailed dosing instructions and/or automatic dosing. To reduce energy consumption and detergents, guests are encouraged to use their towels more than once, and we do not clean the rooms unless the guest specifically requests it.
As much as possible, we buy Swedish bread, meat, vegetables, and dairy products. Many of the products are organic. All fish and shellfish (fresh and pickled) that are bought in are MSC-labelled. Eggs are purchased from a local farm, and as much as we can, we use local ingredients, especially when it comes to seafood. In summer, we grow some of our own herbs. Our coffee is certified and fair trade, and we only buy tea labeled “rainforest.”
We recycle all cardboard, plastic, glass, and metal, and our furnishings are mostly purchased second-hand—either via flea markets or antique dealers.
At Strandflickorna, guests are encouraged to use local transport when they get here. We also ask guests staying multiple nights to reuse towels and beach towels. They also get tips on local activities that don’t require a car. These can include, for example, bicycle tours, oyster and mussel expeditions, hiking, and kayaking. We also act as an Info Point and advise on local attractions.
To save energy, we have invested in geothermal heating in two of the villas. The third villa has direct-acting electricity—there we actively work to lower the heat when the rooms are unrented. All showers in our rooms have water-saving flush features.
Our employees undergo environmental training, and we continuously work with suggestions on how we can best promote the environment at our staff meetings. We only buy eco-labelled paper and work actively to avoid unnecessarily printing paper attachments in our daily work. We continuously work to reduce food waste and adapt, for example, the arrangement of food at the buffet according to the number of guests. We also strive for a pre-selected menu for our dinner guests, which contributes to insignificant wastage.
Electricity consumption is reduced by having light- or time-controlled switches for all outdoor lighting.
We have installed timed and/or motion switches in many of our spaces to avoid lights or machines being switched on when they are not needed.
