Nordiska Akvarellmuseet
Nordiska Akvarellmuseet (The Nordic Watercolour Museum) is a fund-raising foundation whose purpose is public benefit and to promote science and research in the field of Nordic watercolor art and watercolor techniques.
More visitors when and where places are not full
Every year, to attract more visitors when and where places are not full, we produce three to six different and unique exhibitions on site on the island of Tjörn. The museum is open all year round and attracts visitors from all over the world.
As little unnecessary environmental impact as possible
Museum visitors are encouraged to use public transport and the municipality of Tjörn has promised charging posts for electric cars for the museum’s visitor parking lot. The business works intensively with digital accessibility, in projects such as remote artist residencies, via live screenings and self-produced monthly films from the museum and its immediate environment, and via film clips with creative tips to engage in from home. In the last five years, the museum has greatly reduced its production of exhibition catalogues and other printed matter. Exhibition transport is coordinated via specialised transporters of art and valuable objects, combining shipments whenever possible. Purchases for the museum shop are made in larger volumes on fewer occasions and orders are often coordinated with the museum’s educational department. Digital meetings are preferred, and work-related travel is seldom. The business has modern waste management facilities where sorting and sustainability are promoted with signage and bin stickers and the volume of waste is reduced with a cardboard press. Solar panels have been installed on the roof of the museum building.
Good for both residents and visitors – more full-time jobs and more resilient businesses
Nordiska Akvarellmuseet works closely with Tjörn municipality in marketing and creating an attractive place to live and to visit. This supports the conditions for offering a range of restaurants, shops, and other services all year round, which in turn generates more full-time jobs. The museum building and its side buildings have a timeless and sustainable design that blends well into the rugged landscape and with local architectural forms. When repairing and maintaining the premises and when working in its immediate environment, the museum prioritizes long-term collaborations with local suppliers. The museum has responsibilities vis-à-vis the municipality’s schools with the goal that students and teachers should feel at home at the museum and take part in exhibitions and activities as a matter of course. All visitors to the museum under the age of 26 have free entry.
